Breakthrough! NCUST Students Excel in MCM/ICM
On April 24th, the results of the American College Student Mathematical Contest in Modeling /Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM) were released. The team of NCUST students achieved the best results in the history of the contest. Under the guidance of Professor Wu Jianhui, the team of Li Binggang, Wu Yuhang and Ji Mengting, won the Finalist award, that is, the Outstanding Winner nomination award (top 1%), which fulfills a breakthrough since NCUST participated in the contest in 1997. NCUST team also won 7 first prizes (Meritorious Winner), 12 second prizes (Honorable Mention), and the results ranked best among similar colleges and universities.
MCM/ICM, sponsored by American Federation of Mathematics and Its Applications, is the only international mathematical modeling contest and is also the most influential one in the world. Through participating in this international contest, NCUST students compete with outstanding students from world-famous colleges and universities, stimulate their sense of competition and team spirit, and improve their innovative ability and comprehensive quality. In 2021, up to 26,112 teams from more than 20 countries and regions participated in the contest, including Cambridge University and Tsinghua University. |
