The Central Party School in Beijing recently played host to a remarkable gathering of minds. An exclusive training class for newly elected academicians of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering has been organized, with a cohort of 124 distinguished participants who joined the session.

Among this distinguished assemblage of scholars, President Zhang Fucheng was invited to represent the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He bore the responsibility of elucidating the concept and inherent significance of the "spirit of scientists" to the 123 newly accepted academicians.

In his keynote speech, President Zhang embarked upon a profound dissection of the quintessential spirit of scientists. He iterated the multicultural aspects of the scientist's spirit, including the patriotic spirit of loving the country and serving the people, the synergistic strength of collective wisdom, the tenacity of pursuing truth and adhering to rigorous scholarship and the innovative spirit of scaling heights and spearheading originality. Further, he expounded on his academic growth experiences in progressing the nation's railway technology and tackling challenges in highly specialized steel materials for railway infrastructures.

President Zhang took the opportunity to elaborate on the construction and subsequent development of the Hebei Steel Laboratory. He explained how the lab, following an integral approach of synchronizing education, science, technology, and talent, managed to stimulate innovation in Hebei's steel industry. The lab mobilized resources and brought together expertise in the steel field from across the globe, fostering a conducive environment for organized scientific research and nurturing inventive talent. The lab's emphasis on paving a new path and setting up a platform for the younger generation of researchers was highly commended.

President Zhang concluded his speech by addressing the new academicians. He implored them to cherish the honor bestowed upon them and uphold the spirit of scientific discovery. With the onset of new challenges in contemporary times, he challenged them to pioneer innovation and contribute significantly to China's modernization and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
