College of Arts
 Overview
 
College of Arts, founded in 1958, was one of colleges created for the art students in North China. Currently, there are 50 faculty members, including 25 professors and associate professors, with 46 PhD and master’s degree. Over the years, the college has cultivated numerous artists, entrepreneurs and senior professional design talents for the society. Some graduates such as Fang Lijun, Mei Mosheng and Wang Xiaohui have become outstanding figures of art in contemporary at home and abroad. At present, there are 5 departments and 6 majors for undergraduate in Painting, Environmental Design, Visual Communication Design, Product Design and Animation. In 2005, artistic design was entitled to grant master’s degree in Designing Art, and in 2011, it was granted the first-level authorized discipline of master's degree in Design. And it has the same educational level and the right to apply for master’s degree granting and the qualification of recommending outstanding graduates to pursue master’s degree with exam exemption.
 
The college aims to be at the forefront and has artistic exchanges at home and abroad extensively. In addition, the college is equipped with art galleries and professional studios with top-notch facilities as well as “Henghui Art Star” professional scholarship. Adhere to teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, cultivate students’ comprehensive abilities and integrate theories and practices in order to raise senior application-oriented talents with a solid foundation and innovative spirit, these are the mainly guiding ideology of the college.
 
The works of students has won awards in the competitions held by the Ministry of Education and various professional art exhibitions and competitions for many times. The college is also awarded IGD Excellent Design Agency by China Packaging Technology Association. In the past three years, the college's employment rate has reached over 97.5%.
 
 
History
 
Early of 1958
Tangshan Municipal Industrial Bureau held training courses.
1958
Tangshan established Local Industrial School to train middle-level technical personnel and set up a major in ceramic. During this period, there were some excellent students, including Cui Dexi, Shi Lintian, Wang Zhilin and Zhao Chengwen, etc.
1959
Ma Qingyou came to the school to teach.
1960
Tangshan changed the former name into Ceramic Industry Technical School and added the Team leader: Yi Daoping (expert in flowers and chicken of Chinese painting), Zhang Yuguan (expert in figures of Chinese painting) and Wu Guang (patterns). Students Cui Dexi, Shi Lintian, Wang Zhilin and Zhao Chengwen went to Art Department of Hebei Normal University of Art for further study and taught in school. Zhang Yunqiu and Zhao Wenran were seconded by the Tao Institute to teach.
1961
Recruited major students (other majors to study ceramic art major were voluntarily). Qiao Wenke was the head teacher. Xu Shiqin, Li Qin, Gao Qiyun, Liu Wenpu, Xing Guoyong and Gan Zuoyu graduated from the Department of Arts of Hebei Art Normal University and came to teach in our school. The teaching system of fine Arts Department of Hebei Art Teachers’ College was absorbed and adopted.
1963
The aim of starting art examination was to recruit students.
1964
The first batch of ceramic art students graduated and distributed to the whole country, such as Liaoning, Hunan, Handan and Zhangjiakou, etc.
1966

Resumed enrollment
1971
Sun Qifeng, Pu Zuo, Wang Songyu, Bai Gengyan and others from Hebei Normal University of Art successively taught and lectured at the school.
1974
Recruited skilled technological classes and recommended workers, peasants and soldiers to enroll (two years of schooling). Li Chunyuan, Yang Hewei and others were enrolled.
1977
Resumed the college entrance examination and officially enrolled 30 students of ceramic art majors in Hebei Province in winter. Qiao Wenke was the head teacher.
1978
Changed its name to Hebei Light Industry School, and had summer enrollment as well as enrolled Mei Mosheng and Wang Weian. Huo Chunyang, Du Ziling, Chang Yunsuo and others came to the school to teach and give lectures. The major was opened in this year. Hao Yuming from Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts came to the school to teach for half a year and organize teaching work.
1980
Fang Lijun, Yang Shaobin and others enrolled, and the head teacher was Zhao Wenran.
1984
No enrollment.
1990
Enrollment depends on students’ expense. Yin Shuyu, Xie Wanjie, Sun Yuxiang, Mu Dongkai, Liu Changrui, Xu Kaixuan and others enrolled.
1991
Gao Yong, Zheng Huaiyou, Gao Lin, Zhao Xiaojian and others enrolled.
1993
Enrolled students in interior design
2000
The school was merged into Hebei Institute of Technology and began to recruit undergraduate students. Professor Zhang Ningzhi and Yang Yongshan from the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University are invited as guest professors.
2002
Started enrollment for undergraduate major in painting
2004
In May, the History of Hebei Institute of Technology was approved by the Ministry of Education to be renamed as Hebei University of Technology. In June, the College of Art was established with two departments of painting and art design.
2005
Approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, the major of Design Art became a discipline that master’s degree authorized.
2007
Started to recruit postgraduate
2010
Hebei University of Science and Technology and North China Coal Medical College formally merged into Hebei United University, which was approved as a first-level discipline for a master’s degree in fine arts as well as the same qualifications to apply for a master’s degree.
2015
In February, the Ministry of Education replied to the People’s Government of Hebei Province, approving Hebei United University to be officially renamed North China University of Science and Technology.
2016
In November, the College of Art of North China University of Science and Technology moved to Caofeidian campus as a whole.
2017
Since September in 2017 until now, the College of Art of North China University of Science and Technology had five departments: Painting Department, Visual Communication Department, Environmental Design Department, Animation Department and Product Design Department. The enrollment in provinces and cities includes Hebei, Tianjin, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Fujian, Xinjiang and other provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions with more than 900 undergraduates and graduate students.
