Overview
North China University of Science and Technology is one of the colleges and universities in China offering continuing education at an earlier time. In 1958, it began to enroll students of adult education at the junior college level. Since 1970, adult training courses such as on-the-job training classes, short-term and medium-term training classes and professional certificate classes have been offered. Since 1989, adult higher education for academic qualifications has been carried out, including junior college, senior college, etc. and the forms of study include part-time, correspondence and off-job, etc. The vocational skills training center was established in 2004. In 2010, the former College of Continuing Education of Hebei University of Science and Technology merged with the former College of Adult Education of North China Coal Medical College to form the College of Continuing Education of North China University of Science and Technology. The college is in charge of the higher education of adults, various on-the-job trainings, qualification trainings, self-study education and various social examinations.
College of Continuing Education of North China University of Science and Technology, relying on its advantages in running ordinary higher education, actively explores the rules of running continuing education, insists on opening up and strengthens its connotation construction. Giving fully play to the disciplinary advantages of covering industries, and actively exploring ways of running schools, various modes have been formed, such as school-local joint, school-enterprise joint, inter-school joint, school-industry joint and so on. There are 52 undergraduate and specialized courses, 17 correspondence teaching stations and teaching centers in the province, and more than 37,500 adult education and training students. A distinctive teaching model and management mechanism has been formed by actively carrying out research on continuing education, constantly improving teaching methods and means, and strictly managing teaching to ensure the quality of education. Over the years, it has cultivated more than 104,000 adult education undergraduates and junior college graduates in science and engineering, medicine, economics and management, literature and history, law and art, and trained more than 31,000 talents of various types. It has provided a large number of technical and management backbones for all walks of life, including Ding Liguo and a famous industrialist, Zheng Jiuqiang, a representative of the 17th National Congress of the CPC.
Over the years, college with its rigorous scholarly research tradition, rich teaching resources, highlighting the characteristics of widespread won praise from all sectors of society, has been successively awarded the title of the ‘Common Colleges and Universities Adult Education Schools Advanced Unit in Hebei Province’, ‘Excellent School Adult Higher Education Evaluation in Hebei Province’, ‘Hebei Province Rural Comprehensive Reform Education Advanced Unit’, ‘Advanced Group of Adult College Recruit Students in Hebei Province’ and so on. The training base of The National Mine Medical Aid Center, the training base of college English teachers in North China under the National ‘Sino-British Cooperation’, the designated training unit for the innovative ability of professional and technical personnel in Hebei Province and the continuing education training base in Tangshan have been listed successively. Continuing education has become an important part of the multilevel higher education system, an important bridge and bond connecting the society, and one of the important forms serving the local economic construction and the social development of the industry.
The college will fully implement the education policy of the Communist Party of China, implement the national education planning outline, adhere to the school motto of ‘wisdom, erudition, diligence and truth-seeking’, adhere to the purpose of ‘valuing technology, putting emphasis on technology and serving the society’, deepen the reform, expand the opening-up, cultivate people-oriented, improve quality, steadily develop academic education, vigorously develop training education, and accelerate the development of distance education. The school also strive to build a continuing education platform for students’ career development and lifelong learning, which is close to the reality, content meets the needs, services keep up with the times, and has more distinctive characteristics to make greater contributions to the construction of a learning society and a powerful human resources country.
