College of Materials Science and Engineering
Overview
College of Materials Science and Engineering has origins that trace back to 1958 from a silicate major. At present, the college has a comprehensive range of professional disciplines and high-level teaching and research platforms. The college has disciplines authorized to grant master’s degrees in materials science and engineering and authorization categories for professional master’s degrees in materials engineering. It has four bachelor degree programs, including Inorganic Nonmetallic Materials Engineering, Material Chemistry, Polymer Materials and Engineering, and Composite Materials and Engineering. The college now has teaching units, laboratories and research centers.

The college offers “Guoliang Scholarship” and “Ruixing Scholarship & Award” to encourage and fund undergraduates and postgraduates.
As the supporting discipline for the doctoral degree programs, Materials science and engineering ranked among the top 9 outstanding disciplines in the fourth round of national discipline evaluation.
The experimental center is the national and provincial demonstration center for teaching experiments. The discipline of material science is one of the strongest in Hebei Province, and the Fundamentals of Inorganic Materials Science is the excellent course in Hebei Province. At present, the college has 56 faculty members, including 13 professors, 20 associate professors. Among them, 27 faculty members are master tutors and 36 teachers have doctor’s degrees.
Relying on the advantages of talents, disciplines and technical equipment, the college has made fruitful achievements in the research fields of high-performance cement-based materials, advanced ceramic materials, high-temperature structural materials, polymer materials as well as composite materials. In recent years, it has undertaken and completed more than 150 National Natural Science Foundation projects, provincial and municipal vertical scientific research projects, and university-enterprise horizontal scientific research projects and won more than 80 national, provincial, or municipal awards, had more than 770 scientific research papers published, and more than 70 national invention patents authorized. There are more than 60 postgraduates and 1000 undergraduates in the college. Over the years, the college has always maintained a high employment rate with an average employment rate of 98% in the past three years.
The college adheres to the university’s motto of “Remaining virtue and erudite; Being diligent and practical”. In the processing of cultivating students, it pays equal attention to morality and knowledge, and emphasizes the combination of theory and practice in scientific research and teaching. Also, it strives to raise high-quality applied talents for the society, who have a solid theoretical foundation, strong practical ability and innovative spirit in order to meet the needs of the society.
