College of Psychology and Mental Health
Overview
The predecessor of the College of Psychology and Mental Health of North China University of Science and Technology was the Department of Psychology of North China Coal Medical College established in 2002. In 2010, the Department of Psychology of North China Coal Medical College was renamed as the College of Psychology of Hebei Union University and which was the integration of North China Coal Medical College and Hebei University of Science and Technology. In 2015, it was renamed as the College of Psychology of North China University of Science and Technology. In 2019, it was renamed the College of Psychology and Mental Health, North China University of Technology. The college is currently the only independent institute of psychology and mental health among the education providers in Hebei Province.
There are more than 37 faculty members in the college, including 7 professors and 10 associate professors. Most of the teachers have master’s and doctoral degrees. The college has 2 undergraduate majors in Applied Psychology and Psychiatry and 3 master’s degrees in Mental Hygiene, Psychiatry and Mental Hygiene as well as Master of Applied Psychology (MAP). And the college is endowed with “Tangshan City Mental Health and Cognitive Neuroscience Key Laboratory” and “Tangshan City Brain and Cognitive Function Research Basic Innovation Team”. Tangshan Branch of Hebei Psychological Association, Tangshan Minor Mental Health Maintenance Center, College Student Mental Health Education and Counseling Center are all affiliated to the college. The Department of Psychiatry (Psychology Department) of the Affiliated Hospital of North China University of Technology is under the management of our college.
The college boasts advanced educational concepts and superior teaching as well as scientific research conditions. The laboratory area is more than 1,500 square meters, including the teaching platform which is related to psychology foundation, physiological psychology, psychological consulting and simulation teaching as well as cognitive neuroscience, and the scientific research platform where EEG, eye movement biofeedback, behavior observation, molecular psychiatry, brain cognition and others can be measured. The psychological counseling center consists of group counseling room, individual counseling room, catharsis room, music therapy room and sand table room. The top-notch teaching facilities and platforms fully meet the teaching, practice and scientific research needs of the teachers and students. The college also has more than 10 undergraduate and graduate practice teaching bases such as Beijing Huilongguan Hospital, Suzhou Psychiatric Hospital and the Sixth Hebei People’s Hospital.
After years of construction and development, the college has made outstanding achievements in personnel training, scientific research, cooperation and exchange as well as social services. It has become the backbone of domestic psychology and psychiatric personnel training.
