College of Sciences
Overview
College of Sciences has its origin as the Basic Curriculum Teaching Department since the foundation of the university in 1958. In 2010, after the merger of two universities and the reorganization of disciplines, it grew into the college it is today. At the very beginning, the college offered public required courses only. Later on, the college has its own undergraduates and graduates. It has made great progress in curriculum construction, talent cultivation, discipline construction, teacher qualification, scientific research and social service and has been in the leading position among the universities of its kind in Hebei province.
At present, the college has 156 teaching staff, including 68 professors and associate professors, two doctoral supervisors and 42 master’s supervisors. More than 95% of the faculty members have a doctor’s or master's degree. Teachers gained prestigious titles like outstanding teachers into the Teaching Master Project in the state’s Ten Thousand Talents Plan and Outstanding teachers in Hebei province, city Top Ten Excellent Teachers, Hebei Province Highlighted Contribution Experts, the Young and Middle-aged Teachers in Hebei province, the National "May 1st" Labor Medal Winner, national advanced individual ethics and meritorious pacesetter, national educate system of “Triple Three talents projects” in Hebei province, outstanding youth of Hebei province, top youth talents in Hebei province.
The college has five departments, four teaching sections and two laboratories. They are Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Department of Information and Computing Science, Department of Applied Statistics, Department of Applied Physics, Department of Intelligent Science and Technology, Teaching Section of College Mathematics, Teaching Section of College Physics and Mechanics, Teaching Section of College Computer Science, Physics Laboratory, and Data Science Laboratory.
Undergraduate Education:
The college offers 5 undergraduate programs, including information and computational science, math and application mathematics, application statistics, application physics and intelligent science and technology, among which is a first-class major in Hebei province.
Postgraduate Education:
Master of Mathematics, one of the first-level disciplines, includes four key research areas, covering basic mathematics, computational mathematics, applied mathematics and applied mathematical statistics. The master's degree in cyberspace security covers three research areas including cyberspace security foundation, data security and privacy protection, and application security. The electronic information (professional degree) focuses on cyberspace security.
Computational Materials Physics focuses researches in areas of material simulation and calculation, material microphysics, and physical high-performance computing. At present, the college offer the postgraduate program options to 100 students.
General Education Courses:
The college offers basic mathematics, college physics, college physics experiment, college computer, theoretical mechanics and engineering mechanics to all students at university. Highly valued and extensively supported by the university and the college, most of the courses are have been the top-quality courses in Hebei province, which provides sound foundations for undergraduate education.
Laboratory:
The college has Hebei Provincial Key Laboratory of Data Science and Application, Tangshan Key Laboratory of Data Science and Engineering Computing, Caofeidian District-Shuguang Advanced Computing Joint Laboratory, High Performance Engineering Computing Laboratory，Laboratory for Genomics Modeling and Analysis, and Central Laboratory for Physics to nurture students and meet the needs of teaching and research.
Curriculum construction:
The college offers a national-level excellent course 5 provincial-level excellent courses, including "Advanced Mathematics", "Linear Algebra", "Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics", "University Physics", "University Computer"，3 provincial level excellent online distance courses "Numerical Calculation Method", "University Computer-From Application to Thinking", "Linear Algebra", 3 Provincial level graduate students demonstration courses, "Calculation Method", "Fuzzy Mathematics", "Mathematical Statistics". And 1 Hebei Province Teaching Demonstration Center for college Physics Experiment.
Student employment:
The college takes measures to help students with their employment. Firstly, the college strengthens the construction of professional connotation to improve students' professional knowledge and skills; Secondly, the college organizes job fair, and ask all teachers to contact employers to seek vacancies for students; Thirdly, the college encourages students to take the postgraduate entrance examination; Fourthly, the college uses social job resources to provide corresponding training to promote employment. In recent years, the employment rate and postgraduate entrance examination rate have been among the best colleges in the university.
Scientific Research and Social Services:
The college has repeated fruitful achievements in teaching and scientific research, The "Numerical Calculation Method" is regarded as a national quality course. More than 50 high-level textbooks have been published and 13 provincial and ministerial excellent teaching achievement awards have been gained. In the past five years, the faculty has hosted or researched more than 30 National Natural Science Foundation of China, and published more than 1,300 academic papers, many of which were published in top academic journals such as "Science" and "Nature". The college has guided students to win more than 100 international and national competition awards in the past five years, and the average employment rate of graduates in the past three years has exceeded 95%.
