Overview
As one of the earliest universities in Hebei Province to develop postgraduate education, North China University of Science and Technology began to recruit and train postgraduates in 1985. In 2013, it was granted the right to confer a doctoral degree, with the right to apply for a master's degree with the same academic ability and to recommend outstanding undergraduate graduates to study for a master's degree without examination. More than 10,000 graduate students have been cultivated. Featured by well-educated, strong ability and practical style, graduates have received praise from employers.
There are 3 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degree in metallurgical engineering, mining engineering, public health and preventive medicine, 25 first-level disciplines for master's degree authorization, and 13 types of master's professional degrees, involving such 9 categories as engineering, medicine, science, economics, management, literature, art, law, and education. Among the graduate degree authorization disciplines, metallurgical engineering is a world-class construction discipline while mining engineering, public health and preventive medicine are national first-class construction disciplines; there are 18 national ministries and provincial key disciplines, 17 national ministries and provincial science and technology innovation platforms, 3 provincial-level collaborative innovation centers, 37 municipal department level technological innovation platforms.
At present, there are 39 doctoral supervisors and more than 1,600 master tutors, including more than 100 excellent talents of the national "Thousand Talents Program", "New Century Hundred and Thousand Talents Project", experts with special subsidies from the State Council, high-end talents of Hebei Province, scholars from Yanzhao and provincial management. Nowadays, there are 3,203 postgraduates in school, including 108 doctoral students and 3,095 master students. In the past five years, 53 master's theses have been awarded as provincial-level outstanding papers and more than 200 people have won awards in science and technology competitions above the provincial level.
Graduate School is fully responsible for postgraduate education management, consisting of School Office, Admissions and Employment Office, Training Management Office, Teaching Research and Management Office, Youth League Committee, and Student Work Office. A series of regulations and reform measures have been formulated in such areas as postgraduate enrollment and employment, teaching training, education and teaching reform, ideological and political education and management of students. By doing so, a long-term mechanism and incentive mechanism have been formed to improve the quality of graduate education.
With the care and support of school leaders and the joint efforts of all faculty, Graduate School is oriented to serve the social needs, highlighting the two themes of "quality" and "innovation", and striving to promote the coordinated development of the quality, scale, structure and efficiency of graduate education.
